2025 New Zealand Finance Meeting

The Auckland Centre for Financial Research (ACFR) at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law, Auckland University of Technology, hosts its 14th annual meeting and PhD Student Symposium from 14 to 16 December 2025. This year’s conference will take place in Queenstown, New Zealand, a world-renowned destination offering breathtaking natural scenery, adventure sports, wineries, and a vibrant culture. We welcome submissions on all topics related to the field of finance.
Paper Submission
The deadline for paper submissions is 15 July 2025.
Authors will be notified of the outcome of their submission before 15 August 2025.
Conference registration will be open from 1 August 2025 to 1 October 2025.
Conference registration fees are NZD 800.
Keynote Speakers
Kai Li, University of British Columbia, Canada
Dr Li, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (Class of 2022), holds the Canada Research Chair in Corporate Governance and W. Maurice Young Endowed Chair in Finance at the UBC Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia. She is Managing Editor of the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis.
Dr Li’s research focuses on the economic consequences of corporate governance mechanisms. Her current research projects explore: (1) corporate culture, (2) machine learning in finance, and (3) green innovation. Her research has appeared in the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Management Science, Journal of International Business Studies, and many other leading journals in Finance and Economics. She is a Senior Fellow of the Asian Bureau of Finance and Economic Research, a Research Member of the European Corporate Governance Institute, and a Research Fellow of the FinTech at Cornell Initiative. She is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Financial Intermediation, Journal of Financial Stability, and Pacific-Basin Finance Journal. She is a Director of the American Finance Association, a former Chair of the Academic Female Finance Committee, a former Director of the Western Finance Association, a former Council Member of the Society of Financial Studies, and a former Trustee of the Financial Association International.
Charles Cao, Pennsylvania State University, United States
Charles Cao is the Smeal Chair Professor of Finance in the Department of Finance at the Smeal College of Business, Pennsylvania State University. His research interests include derivative securities, hedge funds, FinTech, cryptocurrencies, mutual funds, and market microstructure. His work has been published in a broad range of leading academic journals, including the Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Management Science, Journal of Financial Markets, and Journal of Econometrics. He serves (or has served) as an editor/associate editor of the Pacific-Basin Finance Journal, an associate editor of the Journal of Financial Markets, and Review of Derivatives Research.

Special Issue
A special issue of the Global Finance Journal will feature select papers presented at the 2025 New Zealand Finance Meeting. The journal submission fees will be waived for this Special Issue.

- The conference venue is Crowne Plaza Queenstown, located in the centre of Queenstown and a 1-minute walk to Steamer Wharf.
- Queenstown Airport is 6km away from central Queenstown, about 15-25 minutes away by bus, car or taxi. There is more information on getting to and around Queenstown here.
- Airport transportation options:
- Airport shuttles, taxis, ride-share and luxury transport operators are located directly outside the terminal.
- Orbus bus departs the airport every 15-30 minutes to the city and costs $10 one way or $2 with a Bee Card.
- If you are travelling by car, the drive to Crowne Plaza Queenstown is about 15 minutes (7.9km) via State Highway 6A.
